HOW TO JOIN THE SHA PROGRAM:
Who can become an SHA?
Thank you for your interest in the Student Health Advocate Program!
We recruit new members once a year in Winter Quarter.
Any registered UC San Diego undergraduate student (who is not graduating the same academic year that they are applying) may apply to the SHA Program. The only requirement is a genuine interest in peer health education and a few hours of your time each week.
Students interested in becoming an SHA should possess the following:
A strong interest in and enthusiasm for promoting healthy behaviors among peers
An open mind to diverse cultures, backgrounds, and experiences
Sensitivity to controversial and personal topics and a willingness to talk candidly about them
Dedication and commitment to health promotion, disease prevention, and responsibility as an SHA volunteer
Sincere concern for others' well-being and quality of life
FAQ
DO I NEED EXPERIENCE TO APPLY?
The SHA Program welcomes applications from all undergraduate students interested in educating their peers on health issues and concerns. You do not need prior experience to apply.
WILL THERE BE SOME SORT OF TRAINING IF I AM SELECTED FOR THE SHA PROGRAM?
Yes. A quarter-long, non-credit training class in Spring Quarter is required. This comprehensive training is based on a lecture series from a variety of disciplines and covers leadership skill building in addition to health topics and it includes CPR training when the campus reopens.
DO I NEED TO BE ON CAMPUS TO APPLY?
No SHA activities will be in-person until the campus reopens, this includes recruitment.
WILL I BE NOTIFIED IF I AM SELECTED?
Yes! You will be emailed by the end of Week 7 if you are selected to join the program.
